(N)HXH-J FE180 E90 Cable for Emergency Power Circuits
(N)HXH-J FE180 E90 cable is a halogen-free power cable rated at 0.6/1 kV for fixed installations with specified circuit-integrity requirements. It combines copper conductors, cross-linked ceramic-forming insulation, halogen-free filling and an orange outer sheath.
Part of our fire-resistant power cable range, this product serves building and infrastructure projects with specified circuit-integrity requirements. Cable selection and installation must follow the documented fire-performance scope for the required configuration.
What Do FE180 and E90 Mean?
FE180 describes 180-minute cable circuit integrity under the specified fire-test conditions. The product documentation lists IEC 60331-21 as the relevant test reference.
E90 describes 90-minute functional integrity of a tested cable installation system under DIN 4102-12. It applies to the cable together with the approved supports, fixings and installation arrangement. Specifying an E90 cable therefore requires selecting the corresponding installation system as well.
The two durations refer to different tests and should not be added together. Read our FE180, PH120 and E30/E60/E90 guide for a comparison of cable-level and installation-system performance.
Applications for Fire-Resistant Power Wiring
Typical project applications include power supplies for emergency lighting, smoke extraction and other essential building services, subject to the system design and required approvals. Installation contexts include hospitals, hotels, high-rise buildings, tunnels and industrial facilities.
Select the conductor cross-section for the load, voltage drop, protective devices and installation conditions. For an E90 installation, also check the permitted cable sizes, support spacing, fixing method and cable loading in the applicable system documentation.
Selected (N)HXH-J FE180 E90 Cable Sizes
The following configurations appear in the product datasheet. In a size such as 3×1.5 mm², the first number is the conductor count and the second is the cross-sectional area of each conductor.
| Cable Size | Conductor Count | Conductor Cross-Section |
|---|---|---|
| (N)HXH-J FE180 E90 3×1.5 mm² | 3 | 1.5 mm² |
| (N)HXH-J FE180 E90 4×1.5 mm² | 4 | 1.5 mm² |
| (N)HXH-J FE180 E90 5×1.5 mm² | 5 | 1.5 mm² |
| (N)HXH-J FE180 E90 3×2.5 mm² | 3 | 2.5 mm² |
| (N)HXH-J FE180 E90 4×2.5 mm² | 4 | 2.5 mm² |
| (N)HXH-J FE180 E90 5×2.5 mm² | 5 | 2.5 mm² |
| (N)HXH-J FE180 E90 3×4 mm² | 3 | 4 mm² |
| (N)HXH-J FE180 E90 5×6 mm² | 5 | 6 mm² |
All sizes above have a rated voltage of 0.6/1 kV. The PDF already available on this page lists further configurations, including larger conductor cross-sections up to 35 mm², together with cable diameters, weights and packing lengths.
Halogen-Free Materials and Fire Performance
The halogen-free filling and outer sheath address smoke and halogen requirements alongside the cable’s circuit-integrity specification. These are separate characteristics: low-smoke and halogen-free materials alone do not establish FE180 or E90 performance.
Similarly, a CPR reaction-to-fire classification is separate from circuit integrity during fire. Where the project specifies a particular Euroclass, request the Declaration of Performance for the selected product.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does E90 apply to the cable alone?
No. E90 concerns the tested installation system. The cable, supports and fixings must match the arrangement covered by the applicable documentation.
Is this a screened or armored power cable?
The construction listed for this product has no metallic screen or armor. If the project requires either feature, include it in the enquiry so the appropriate cable design can be selected.
